Keep Moving
Forward.

Developing better players, stronger leaders, and confident young people through the game of basketball.

About Second Wind

Growth often begins where comfort ends.

Second Wind Basketball Academy was built on a simple belief: growth often begins where comfort ends.

In basketball and in life, everyone reaches a point where they feel tired, frustrated, or uncertain. A second wind is the decision to keep going — to stay committed when things become difficult and believe there is still more in you.

We provide high-level basketball instruction in an environment centered on teaching and relationships. We believe great development comes from great teaching, consistent work, and a commitment to mastering the simple things.

We want our athletes to become better players, but we also want them to become stronger people. Basketball is the setting; growth is the purpose.

Whether an athlete is picking up a basketball for the first time or pursuing the game at an elite level, our responsibility remains the same: teach them well, serve them well, and help them grow.

How do we train players?

We help players learn how to respond with confidence, discipline, and the willingness to keep moving forward. We emphasize detail, fundamentals, and the understanding of conceptual basketball. We aim to teach at the highest level while maintaining a highly relational envirionment. Take a look inside our training via the link below.

Tim Johnson

Founder & Director
Second Wind Basketball Academy

Tim Johnson brings more than 20 years of Division I basketball experience to Second Wind Basketball Academy as a player, coach, and mentor.

A native of Memphis, Tennessee, Johnson played at Wofford College, where he was a two-time All-Southern Conference selection and helped lead the Terriers to consecutive conference championships and NCAA Tournament appearances. He finished his career with 1,002 rebounds — the most in Wofford's Division I history — and was inducted into the Wofford Athletics Hall of Fame in 2016.

Johnson went on to spend 15 years coaching at the NCAA Division I level, with stops at Wyoming, Wofford, James Madison, Furman, Indiana State, and Appalachian State. Throughout his career, he contributed to conference championships and NCAA Tournament appearances while helping athletes develop on and off the court.

He founded Second Wind to bring that same level of instruction and personal investment to athletes of all ages and abilities. His approach starts with genuine relationships: challenge players, support them, and teach with purpose.

“Teach them well. Serve them well. Help them grow.”

Second Wind is about more than basketball. It is about perseverance, service, and helping young people discover what they are capable of when they choose to keep going.
